Movie Theatres in Panama

If you are looking for some cultural diversion or just an escape from the tropical heat, consider one of Panama´s movie theatre complexes here in Panama City. All of the malls have them, and most offer at least one movie that is in English with subtitles. Movie Theatres in Panama are some of the best in Central and South America, and they actually get movies that are still playing in the States. A bit of advice- if you are seeing a movie like the Simpsons or a Jim Carey flick, make sure to see the English version with subtitles, even if you had been considering a dubbed version as an opportunity to improve your Spanish. These voice over guys do not do the movie justice, trust me.

Unlike places like Guatemala or Honduras where the selection is very limited and extremely outdated, movie theatres in Panama often have the same movies that are showing in the US, although not the wide variety that people in the States are enjoying. Usually there are 10 movies showing at any given time in Panama, and at least 7 of them will be the standard Hollywood fare. Some movies never make it to Panama, but all of the blockbuster hits will eventually get their turn on the big screen down here.

And forget about paying $50.00 for a family of four during a night out. Matinees run $3.00 and first run, prime time movies in the nicest theatres will never cost more than $5.00 a person. A new addition in the Panama movie theatre world is the Extreme VIP theatre on Ave Balboa next to Hard Rock Café and Mutlicentro. This place offers stadium style RECLINERS, and a full service restaurant! Talk about living in the lap of luxury.

Food in the theatres in the US is limited to stale popcorn and overpriced candy, but not so in Panama. And they serve beer!! Talk about doing it right, some of the theatres even offer a full service restaurant that delivers your food before the previews are over. The Quesadillas at the Extreme VIP are top notch, and you wont pay an arm and a leg for any item on the menu. Theatres are always nice and cool, never completely full, and open until the wee hours of the night.

Movies in Panama! Gone are the days when Diehard I is just making it to the theatres in Panama as Die Hard II makes its debut in The States. No more hot, smoky movie movie houses serving warm drinks and month old chocolate. This country is first world, and their entertainment options are top notch!
